New Moon in Virgo

New Moon in Virgo

In this lunar cycle, our New Moon is on September 21 at 3:43 pm  EDT.

In astrology, the New Moon is a time of new beginnings and wiping the slate clean. It's when you set your intention for the lunar cycle ahead. This New Moon is a little different in that it's also a Solar Eclipse. A Solar Eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, which partially or fully blocks the Sun's light.

Many folks, myself included, view eclipses at rapid times of growth and change, so they aren’t great for manifestation work. The waters are swirling too quickly to get a clear view on what you should call into your life right now.

This is our second New Moon in Virgo this year, as we had one at the end of August. Because this is our second Virgo New Moon, this eclipse is echoing the work we began with the New Moon in August, so we can start fresh at the end of eclipse season.

This eclipse is helping us clear away the old, something that Virgo is excellent with. The symbol for Virgo is often misunderstood, with the focus being on the idea of Virgo being a virgin, but the reality is that Virgo is a maiden carrying sheaves of wheat from the harvest. Virgo’s discerning eye is critical for separating the wheat from the shaft, from knowing what is valuable and what will do us no good.

What are you carrying that it’s time to set down? What are you holding from the harvest that isn’t ripe, or perhaps was left too long on the vine? What is weighing on you that isn’t yours to begin with?

This eclipse is opposite Saturn and Neptune, and trine Pluto and Uranus. Neptune’s involvement means that things may not be clear around this time, or that we won’t have all the information we need. This is another reason why this eclipse, even though it is a New Moon, isn’t the best for manifesting. We could align ourselves with something that we want to call into our lives, just to find out a week or two later that we actually don’t want that thing at all. The trines to Pluto and Uranus help us dive deep to rediscover our power and flow with the tides of change. Saturn’s influence with this New Moon could indicate that our mood or actual physical energy will be low.

Some questions to ask yourself on this New Moon:

  • What boundaries can you set around your work schedule that feels fulfilling?

  • What routines can you implement that recharge your batteries and light you up?

  • What area of your life needs that critical Virgo eye to help you analyze what you can heal?
